How to update my PHP version

So you've confirmed that you need to upgrade your version of PHP but you are a little unsure about how to do this.

There are two distinct paths to getting your website running an up to date version of PHP; these are:

  1. Reconfiguring your web server to alter the version of PHP it runs - there are various ways to do this depending on your exact web hosting setup. Follow our online guides by clicking here.

  2. Changing your web server provider - A surprising number of internet service providers don't offer the very latest stable PHP versions. If this is the case with a website you maintain we would seriously recommend you consider changing provider to another that does. Read more on this here.

Disclaimer: before attempting to update the PHP version of your website we would highly recommend that you make a full backup of it, just in case anything goes wrong.
